Koh Samui
Koh Samui, located in the southern Gulf of Thailand, is the largest island of the Samui Archipelago. It is known for its stunning, palm-fringed beaches, mountainous terrains, and luxury hotels.
With a wide variety, you will always be able to find a beach to suit you, from busier locations in the north, or northeast to the quieter ones of the south and the southwest, although you should bear in mind that in the south the sea is not suitable for swimming.
Magic Gardens and Fish Spas
Hidden high in the hills of Koh Samui set in a lush jungle you will find the ‘Namtok Tar Nim’ (magic garden), where you can get lost in a unique spirit world of small statues and buddhas calmly watching over the garden and along the river that runs through it. All this was a personal passion, hand-built by a food farmer in his 70s. Seek out the small statue of him!
Wander through lush tropical gardens, at Lamai Viewpoint, then sit a while at the tickly fish spa, your feet submerged in the water while the fish nibble at your feet, then climb on the cable car to wonder at the beautiful views across the island, while sipping a passion fruit juice. Or enjoy a thrilling ride on a Zip wire ride from one mountain to another? A difficult choice!
The skywalk at ‘Elephant Kingdom’ provides a unique view of the 4000 elephants of Thailand. Half are born, and then live in captivity, so this rehabilitation centre is their first experience of freedom and is a precious sanctuary for them. They are rescued and brought to the centre where they will spend the rest of their days, living on 18 acres, free to roam wild, as nature intended.
On a small note, please remember while travelling through Thailand and its islands, you can help the gibbons that you may see in bars or on beaches by not having your photograph taken with them
